Fruit Kefir Smoothie

Kickstart your day with this nourishing kefir smoothie, crafted to promote gut health and provide a deliciously nutritious breakfast.

Ingredients and Method

Ingredients

  • For the Milk Kefir
  • 5g milk kefir grains
  • 250ml fresh milk (from a dairy source)
  • For the Smoothie
  • 200g strawberries
  • 50g blueberries
  • 1 banana
  • 150ml milk kefir
  • 2tsp of honey
  • ice cubes

Method

  1. Place your milk kefir grains into the 0.5l Kilner jar provided. Add the milk and stir gently using the beech wood stirrer provided. Continue to stir regularly, at least twice a day.
  2. Add the silicone straining lid and stainless-steel lid and leave to ferment at room temperature. After approximately 24 hours the mixture should start to thicken to the consistency of single cream. Do not leave in direct sunlight.
  3. Once the desired consistency is achieved use the silicone straining lid to strain and decant your kefir into a separate jar for storage, which stops the fermentation process.
  4. Keep your kefir in the fridge and enjoy for up to a month
  5. Place the strawberries and, banana (chopped) and blueberries into a blender and add the milk kefir.
  6. Blend until smooth, adding ice cubes to achieve the desired consistency.
  7. Add honey to taste and enjoy with topped fruit of your choice.

Recipe Tips

Use the beech wooden spoon provided, and avoid using metal utensials to stir the milk kefir grains, as the kefir may errode the metal over time.
