Christmas Mincemeat

Makes 3 lb (1.35kg)

4 x 0.5L/17 US fl oz preserving jars.

Storage: up to 12 months


  • 225g raisins
  • 300g currants
  • 90g Mixed peel
  • 1 small teaspoon of nutmeg and cinnamon
  • 1 large cooking apple, Cored and grated
  • 100g suet (Beef or vegetarian options both work)
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 225g Light brown sugar
  • 100ml/ 3.4 US fl oz brandy (rum or sherry also work)


In a KilnerĀ® preserving pan, combine all ingredients together excluding the brandy.

Place the preserving pan on the stove and heat gently for five minutes. Stir to ensure everything is mixed thoroughly and heated through.

Remove from the stove and allow the mixture to cool completely before adding the brandy.

Place into sterilised KilnerĀ® preserve jar and seal.

Store in the fridge and leave to sit for at least two weeks before consumption.

Consume within two weeks.
